Sares Regis Group of Northern California
Project Management

SARES REGIS Group of Northern California, L.P. (SARES REGIS) joined the Taube Koret Campus as project manager in early 2004. SARES REGIS and its predecessor companies have previously developed over four million square feet of commercial projects in Northern California. Among the firm’s clients are Stanford University, Electronic Arts, Symantec Corporation, TIBCO Software, City of Hayward, City of Santa Monica, First Data Corporation, Equinix, North Coast Medical and Tandem Computers. The SARES REGIS team includes its affiliate, Regis Homes of Northern California, Inc. a leading Northern California homebuilding company that has developed more than 9,000 residential units. The SARES REGIS team on behalf of CJL is led by Jeff Birdwell, President, Commercial Division, who joined the company in 1994 and manages the Northern California Commercial Development Division, overseeing office, R&D, industrial, and retail developments. A graduate of Claremont Men's College with a Bachelor of Science-Civil Engineering, he earned a Master’s Degree-Construction Management from Stanford University, where he currently is a Consulting Associate Professor.

Steinberg Architects, formerly known as The Steinberg Group, was established in 1953, as an architectural, planning, and interior design firm. Steinberg Architects is involved in a broad spectrum of building types including civic, educational, and residential facilities. Nationally recognized for innovative and sustainable design, the firm is headquartered in San Jose with offices in Los Angeles. The firm's mission is to provide socially conscious architecture that leads to innovative solutions to complex urban and environmental challenges. Among the South Peninsula-area landmarks associated with the firm are Congregation Beth Am, the Schwab Residential Center at Stanford University, Temple Beth Jacob and the new Classic Residence by Hyatt on Sand Hill Road, which was recently awarded the “Best of Seniors Housing Design” top recognition by the National Association of Home Builders Seniors Housing Council. Rob Steinberg, FAIA, is the second-generation president of the firm. A graduate of New York University, he earned a Master of Architecture degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

David Friedman, Forell/Elsesser Engineers
Structural Engineer

Forell/Elsesser Engineers is an award-winning structural and earthquake engineering firm founded in 1960. Based in San Francisco, the firm specializes in seismic and innovative engineering for new and retrofitted construction of all types, offering additional expertise in design/build, feasibility studies and cost/benefit analyses. Among the firm’s recent San Francisco projects are the Jewish Community Center, the Asian Art Museum and City Hall. David Friedman is president of the firm and chairman of its board and executive committee. With more than 27 years of experience as a structural engineer, he is a graduate of the University of California Berkeley.

Jim Baer, Premier Properties
Entitlements Consultant

With more than 25 years of experience in Palo Alto real estate development and land use issues, Jim Baer has been an advocate for the Jewish Community Center throughout its quest for a permanent home and now serves as Campus’ lead consultant on the City approval process. He has conducted more than 200 negotiations with the City of Palo Alto, representing a wide range of owners and development types, and is actively engaged in Palo Alto civic affairs. He practiced real estate law for 12 years and from 1984-88 was principal attorney for over $2 billion in transactions. Through Premier Properties, he currently develops and manages commercial properties throughout Palo Alto. A 1972 graduate of Stanford University, he earned JD/MBA degrees from Stanford in 1978 and was a visiting professor at the Law School from 1992-95.

Sandy Sloan
Land Use Attorney

Margaret (“Sandy”) Sloan has practiced land use and municipal law for 25 years, working with the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”), general plan amendments, rezonings, redevelopment plans, development and disposition agreements, annexations, subdivisions, use permits and variances, development agreements, CC&Rs, construction issues, and negotiations with local and regional governmental agencies. Because she is a city attorney herself (for the Town of Portola Valley), she is familiar not only with all aspects of land use law, but also with city processes and the many unique concerns cities take into account in dealing with private parties.
